US DOT opens US$12.4 million fund for maritime transport
Date:2023-03-14 Readers:
THE US Department of Transportation is making US$12.4 million in funding available for projects that aim to improve the country's marine highways.

The fiscal year 2023 funds have been set aside by DOT's Maritime Administration (MARAD), reports New York's Journal of Commerce.

The DOT will evaluate proposed projects based on how effectively they will move goods and their level of non-federal funding, as well as geographic diversity, particularly how the projects address challenges faced by rural areas, MARAD said.

"Since the establishment of the marine highways programme, MARAD has awarded more than $91.6 million in competitive grants to eligible organisations for marine highway services," said MARAD administrator Ann Phillips.

"These grants have supported the development and expansion of marine highways, vessels, and landside ports and infrastructure, which are critical to building supply chain resilience," she said.

Applications for project funding must be submitted no later than April 28.
