JAPAN's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has signed a letter of intent with California Governor Gavin Newsom to create an environmentally friendly shipping route across the Pacific, reports Singapore's Splash 247.
This agreement also includes the aim of developing zero-emission fuels for commercial use.
"We applaud the newest collaboration between California and Japan to clean up our ports and end ship pollution, and we urge that their collaboration focus on driving immediate emissions reductions, scaling absolute zero well-to-wake emissions technologies, and ultimately achieving 100 per cent zero-emission shipping by 2040," said NGO Pacific Climate Campaign manager Allyson Browne.
