ACCORDING to the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs of the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, container throughput of Turkish ports for the first quarter of 2023 amounted to 2.8 million TEU, indicating a decline of 10.8 per cent compared to the same period last year, reports St Petersburg PortNews.
In March alone, the ports of Turkey handled 1 million TEU, which is 5.8 per cent lower YoY.
The primary destinations for shipping were Egypt, Greece, Saudi Arabia, Israel, and Morocco.
Greece, Israel, Egypt, Russia, and Italy were the primary countries for container import.
The port of Ambarli handled the highest TEU traffic in March with 275,000 TEU, followed by Kocaeli with 172,000 TEU, Mersin with 163,000 TEU, Aliaga with 135,000 TEU, and Tekirdag with 127,000 TEU.
Overall, Turkish ports' throughput for January-March 2023 amounted to 135.3 million tonnes, a decrease of 7.5 per cent YoY.
