COMPARED to March, the port is experiencing an increase in its overall container volume, indicating a positive trend. This marks the second consecutive month of rising cargo volume for Oakland, reports London's Port Technology.
Specifically, the loaded container volume has seen a significant rise of over 7,000 TEU since March.
"Given the increase we've seen in business over the last couple of months, we are optimistic about a stronger second half of 2023 for the amount of cargo moving through Oakland," said Port of Oakland maritime director Bryan Brandes.
Mr Brandes said he anticipates "increasing the number of ocean carrier services offered at the Port of Oakland in the coming months."
In the previous month, the Port of Oakland handled 174,482 TEU, showing growth compared to the 170,268 TEU recorded in March.
Moreover, the total cargo volume in March, which includes both full and empty containers, exceeded that of February, reaching 153,837 TEU.
Notably, export empties experienced an increase of 21.6 per cent, with a handling of 24,754 TEU in April 2023, compared to 20,365 TEU in April 2022.
On the other hand, empty imports observed a decline of 8.9 per cent, with 16,395 TEU passing through the port, instead of 17,993 TEU in April 2022.
