HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering Co secured an order worth US$937 million to construct five very large container carriers for a Taiwanese shipping company, reports the Korea Herald.
Under the supervision of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Co, one of HD Korea Shipbuilding's three affiliates, the construction of these 15,500-TEU unit ships will take place at the shipyard located in the southeastern port of Ulsan.
This information was disclosed in a regulatory filing by the shipbuilding company.
The container vessels will be propelled by liquefied natural gas and will be delivered to Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp, the Taiwanese shipping company, in stages, commencing in 2026.
In the current year, HD Korea Shipbuilding has successfully secured orders totalling $11.42 billion for the construction of 93 ships, which accounts for 72.6 per cent of its annual order goal of $15.74 billion.
These orders consist of 29 product carriers, three oil tankers, 29 container vessels, 16 liquefied natural gas carriers, 14 liquefied petroleum gas carriers, and two midsized gas carriers.
