Euro chamber wants Manila's box monitoring plan to end
Date:2023-06-12 Readers:
THE European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) has urged the Philippine Port Authority (PPA) to abandon its container monitoring scheme, stating that it would create additional obstacles to trade between Europe and the Philippines, reports the Manila Times.

The ECCP highlighted customs and logistics difficulties, specifically the PPA's Trusted Operator Programme-Container Registry Monitoring in System (TOP-CRMS) and Empty Container Storage Shared Service Facility (ECSSSF) programmes.

These initiatives were identified as problematic for trade and logistics operations.

"Upon further review of the PPA Administrative Order 04-2021 and its implementation operational guidelines, the ECCP respectfully calls for the revocation of the TOP-CRMS and ECSSSF," said the ECCP.

"The ECCP believes that this proposed measure will result in inefficiencies and dramatically increase costs for consumers and businesses which are still reeling from the adverse effects of the pandemic."
