Samsung tests autonomous navigation with a 15,000 TEU ship
Date:2023-07-11 Readers:
SOUTH KOREA's Samsung Heavy Industries has a remote autonomous navigation and smart ship system aboard a 15,000 TEUer, which set sail on a June 26-July 1 voyage from Geoje to Taiwan, reports Bangalore's Marine Insight.

This demonstration was conducted by integrating advanced autonomous navigation technologies such as AIS, radar, camera sensors, and sensor fusion.

In the South China Sea, where large ships operate, it succeeded in demonstrating autonomous navigation technology that has been upgraded to a higher level through highly difficult tests such as accurately presenting safe avoidance routes when approaching from the front (head-on) or side (crossing) of a ship.

In fact, the route adopted by Samsung Heavy Industries' autonomous navigation system matched more than 90 per cent of the avoidance route determined by experienced navigators.
