CHINA's Tianjin Port has handled over 9.12 million TEU of containers in the first five months of the year, up 7.7 per cent year on year, reports Xinhua.

The port's cargo throughput exceeded 231 million tonnes from January to May 2023, representing a 2.4 per cent year-on-year growth, said Tianjin Port (Group) Co chairman Chu Bin.

According to Xinhua, the port has been among the world's 10 busiest ports in terms of cargo throughput for years.

Said Mr Chu: "Tianjin Port aims to increase its annual container throughput to more than 27 million TEU in 2027."

Tianjin Port currently has 144 container shipping routes. The port on the Bohai Sea's shore has commercial connections with 500 ports in over 180 nations and regions.

In December 2022, Cosco connected three wind turbines to the grid for power generation at the Port of Tianjin.

In January, Tianjin Port and Huawei announced plans to collaborate on building a digital twin of the Port of Tianjin in China.
