Piraeus port docks 24,188-TEU OOCL Piraeus on its first 84-day loop
Date:2023-07-17 Readers:
THE Port of Piraeus docked the 24,188-TEU OOCL Piraeus, one of the biggest containerships in the world, on its maiden 84-day round trip voyage connecting Asia with Europe, reports Xinhua.

The vessel, owned by Hong Kong Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL), a Cosco unit, the vessel docked at the Piraeus Container Terminal (PCT), itself a subsidiary of COSCO Shipping.

The Hong Kong-flagged OOCL Piraeus has an overall length of 399.9 metres and a molded width of 61.3 metres.

"The very presence of OOCL Piraeus here today signifies the fact that the Port of Piraeus has become a critical link of the new trade route connecting the Far East to Europe and Africa," said the terminal's managing director Zhang Anming.

Piraeus is at the top of container ports in the Mediterranean and among the four most important sea trade hubs in Europe, said Mr Zhang.

Taking over the management of Piraeus' terminals II and III in 2010, PCT has transformed Piraeus into one of the most important hubs for international freight transport in the Mediterranean and Europe.
