THE Port of Hong Kong saw container throughput take a nose dive in June plummeting 23.7 per cent to 1.21 million TEU compared to the same month last year when the port handled a total of 1.588 million TEU.
June was the fourth month in a row that the port recorded decreases in container throughput.
Kwai Tsing terminals handled a total of 936,000 TEU in June, 21.4 per cent down from the corresponding period in 2022 when box throughput totalled 1.191 million TEU.
Container throughput at non-Kwai Tsing terminals totalled 275,000 TEU, a decrease of 30.8 per cent from 397,000 TEU in June 2022.
In the first six months of the year, total throughput amounted to 7.133 million TEU, 15.4 per cent down from the corresponding six-month period last year.
