Wan Hai's new 11,000-TEUer destroys Cai Mep flour terminal
Date:2023-08-01 Readers:
THE new 11,000-TEU Wan Hai A02 collided with the 81,603-dwt Cypriot Vasso 2 while turning in the Thi Vai River at Cai Mep, Ho Chi Minh, reports Rostock, Germany's FleetMon.

At that time, the vessel was departing from the Cai Mep Container Terminal.

During the incident, the ship collided with the bulk carrier that was berthed at the Interflour Terminal.

The impact caused significant damage, leading to the collapse of around 46 metres of pier infrastructure, and the destruction of conveyor and suction cargo handling equipment.

Following the accident, Wan Hai A02 proceeded to the Vung Tau outer anchorage area and anchored at 2000 LT on the same day.

As of 1,230 LT on July 14, the vessel remained anchored, presumably awaiting the results of the ongoing investigation and damages assessment.

Prior to this incident, Wan Hai A02 had arrived at Cai Mep on July 13 from the USA via Shenzhen.

Shenzhen was scheduled to be the ship's next port of call after departing from Cai Mep.

As of now, there are no detailed reports on the extent of damages sustained by both vessels, although it has been indicated that the damages may be minor.
