DHL Supply Chain, part of DHL Group, announced a new 70,000-sqaure-metre distribution centre is to be located in Violet Township, Ohio.
The new distribution centre in the United States, which will be located near DHL Supply Chain's US headquarters in Westerville, Ohio, is scheduled to open in the second quarter of 2024.
According to the company, this addition brings DHL's total footprint to around 1.4 million square metres in its home state and around 15 million square metres in North America.
The Violet Township facility aims to leverage the latest robotics technology and automation processes, reports Greece's Container News.
In addition to prioritizing digitalization investments, this facility will lead the industry in sustainable building planning and construction, according to a statement.
The sustainable features of the project include LED lighting with smart controls, clerestory windows for natural lighting in the warehouse and electric vehicle charging infrastructure for commercial vehicles and cars.
Furthermore, the new distribution centre includes solar PV-ready roof, native flora and fauna landscaping and rainwater harvesting for landscape irrigation.
