DP World Callao handles 1m TEU up to mid-July
Date:2023-08-25 Readers:
DP World Callao in Peru has set a record by handling one million TEU in the first seven and half months of 2023.

This represented an increase of 13 per cent compared to the same period in 2022, thanks to the 15 per cent increase in productivity at the South Quay of the Callao port precinct, reports UK's Seatrade Maritime News.

"This new milestone is a reflection of the connectivity that we have been offering for our exports and imports. It also positions us as one of the most efficient port terminals in the world," said DP World Peru.

In the month of July, DP World Callao moved the highest monthly TEU volume in the entire port history of Peru, an amount that may continue to grow in the years to come.

DP World Callao is expanding the South Quay Terminal and has reached 62 per cent in the construction of the terminal.

The new US$350 million expansion will have three new gantry cranes on the quay and 16 new yard cranes, all of which will be electric. The equipment will arrive at the end of the year from China and the expansion work is expected to be fully operational by mid-2024 at the latest.
