COSCO Shipping Holdings has held the maiden voyage ceremony of its self-operated "Europe-South America East Coast" service, and the first inland channel services in Brazil, at the ICTSI's Rio Brasil Terminal.
The "New Nantong" vessel set sail from the port laden with goods from countries such as Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina to the ports of destination in Europe and deliver the cargoes, including Brazilian coffee, to customers, according to a company statement.
"Each liner on this route can handle cargoes of over 3,000 TEU, and mainly runs between South American countries (including Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina) and the European countries (including the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and Portugal).
"It further promotes economic and trade cooperation between the two regions and ensures the supply chain stability. The launch of this route expands the daily handling capacity of the Port of Rio de Janeiro, which not only generates more income to the state of Rio de Janeiro, but also facilitates the export of commodities from the neighboring Minas Gerais State."
