OOCL continues on weak trend with Q3 revenues down 65pc
Date:2023-10-12 Readers:
HONG Kong's Orient Overseas International Limited (OOIL) has announced that its subsidiary Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) has posted a decrease of 65.1 per cent in total revenues to US$1.75 billion for the third quarter ending September 30, 2023, compared to the same period in 2022.

The Cosco Group-controlled shipowner said overall average revenue per TEU decreased by 67.3 per cent compared to the third quarter of last year. This was despite rising volumes across its main east-west trade routes in the three-month period, bucking the weak market trend and presenting a particularly solid peak season performance on the trans-pacific eastbound corridor. Total trans-pacific liftings in the third quarter amounted to 477,425 TEU, a surge of 13.8 per cent over the same period last year.

Total liftings in the three months to the end of September increased by 6.7 per cent to 1.87 million TEU from 1.75 million TEU last year. Loadable capacity increased by 13.6 per cent. The overall load factor was 5.1 per cent lower than the same period in 2022.

For the first nine months of 2023, average revenue per TEU decreased by 62.4 per cent compared to the same period last year, and total revenues decreased by 61.8 per cent over the same period last year.

Total liftings increased by 1.5 per cent and the loadable capacity increased by 7.6 per cent. The overall load factor was 4.8 per cent lower than the same period in 2022.
