The development of the terminal began in March 2021, when DP World and Caisse du Depot et Placement du Quebec, a worldwide investment organization, inked a long-term deal with Maspion Group to begin building an international container port and industrial logistics park, reports London's Port Technology.

DP World Maspion East Java, the joint venture business, would manage an international container port with a design capacity of up to 3 million TEU, raising efficiency and operational excellence in Indonesia.

In addition, the alliance will create an integrated industrial and logistics park close to the container terminal, with an initial land size of 110 hectares and room for future growth.

Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group chairman and CEO of DP World, said: "Our partnership with Maspion Group to build new infrastructure in Gresik will strengthen East Java's position as a key trade and logistics gateway.
