Shell supplies liquefied natural gas fuel for MSC Cruises
Date:2023-10-23 Readers:
Shell LNG has completed the first bunkering of MSC Euribia in Rotterdam, with Shell LNG West (Shell) providing bunker fuel for the second new LNG powered vessel on the line under an agreement with MSC Cruises. MSC Euribia currently operates in Northern Europe.
This new agreement complements the ongoing collaboration between MSC Cruises and Shell to achieve the broader common decarbonisation goal, which has been in place since 2021.

Shell said both companies see LNG as an important lever to support their goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050. LNG is a transition fuel to achieve net zero emissions through bioliquefied natural gas and eventually synthetic LNG when used on a large scale.

MSC Cruises has invested €3 billion in three NG-powered cruise ships. The first two ships, MSC World Europa and MSC Euribia, entered service in December 2022 and June 2023, respectively. A third ship, MSC World America, will join the fleet in 2025.
