HAPAG-Lloyd, a prominent global shipping firm, successfully installed its 700,000th tracking device, reports Bangalore's MarineInsight.
This digital transformation of their container fleet is poised to enhance container tracking, enable timely data transmission, and monitor sudden container activities, enhancing accessibility and transparency within the supply chain.
"We are proud to be at the forefront of the digitalization of container shipping," said Hapag Lloyd CEO Rolf Habben Jansen.
"Our "Smart Container Fleet" initiative aims to revolutionize the sector and establish new benchmarks for customer service and supply-chain transparency."
In commemorating this milestone, digital and transportation federal minister Volker Wissing personally affixed a tracking device to a Hapag-Lloyd container.
Said Hapag Lloyd container applications director Olaf Habert: "It is our vision to build the world's smartest container fleet and provide valuable information to our customers at the frequency they need."
These tracking devices, equipped with cutting-edge energy harvesting technology, guarantee extended lifespan and high-frequency data transmission.
The company's plan involves outfitting its fleet of 1.6 million dry and reefer containers with tracking devices by the start of 2024.
