DAMCO, a wholly owned free standing AP Moller-Maersk logistics company, has announced that group's New Jersey-based Maersk Distribution Services Inc (MDSI) will be integrated into Damco.
MDSI generates US$200 million in revenue a year in the US and Canada and employs more than 600 people. It is a warehousing and distribution company, which delivers cross docking, transloading, warehousing and inland transportation services to customers from its 18 facilities in the major ocean and rail gateways in North America - it establishes a critical link between the international and domestic supply chains of many customers.
MDSI has during the last years re-organised and upgraded facilities. By integrating MDSI with Damco, customers sourcing from overseas will benefit from systematic integration between the international supply chain to the domestic distribution, said a Damco statement.
"The MDSI team is a natural extension to Damco. MDSI substantially enhances our offerings to the market and enables us to extend the scope of the services we offer to our valued customers" said Damco CEO Rolf Habben-Jansen.
With MDSI now part of the organisation, Damco will number 1,000 employees and expects generate $500 million a year in revenue in North America.
