ONE jumps on methanol fuel trend with 12 new vessels
Date:2024-01-23 Readers:
SINGAPORE-BASED but Japanese owned Ocean Network Express (ONE) announced its entry into the realm of methanol-powered ships by placing an order for twelve 13,000-TEU dual-fuel vessels from two Chinese shipyards, reports New York's Journal of Commerce.

This move aligns with the broader industry trend as more carriers explore alternative fuels.

The delivery of these vessels is scheduled to commence in 2027, marking a significant step in ONE's decarbonisation aimed at achieving net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050.

"The upcoming new fleet is pivotal in achieving our goal of deploying the first alternative fuel ships by 2030 and marks a significant milestone in our journey towards a greener and more sustainable maritime industry," said ONE chief executive Jeremy Nixon.
