Shandong port of Qingdao, the world's first!
Date:2024-04-08 Readers:
Shandong Port Qingdao Port constructed the world's first Port Information Model (PIM).

A few days ago, Qingdao Port of Shandong Port built the world's first Port Information Model (PIM). This move not only fills the port industry industrial Internet information model of the blank, but also to explore a lower cost, higher efficiency, wider applicability of the port digital twin technology programme.

According to reports, in the past, the project pre-planning, post-audit need to be on-site field measurements, staff holding a ruler, carrying equipment, the top of the sun in the field measurements. But now only need to open the PIM platform, less than a minute to complete the accurate measurement.

In accordance with the unified planning of Shandong Port Intelligent Port Construction, Qingdao Port took the lead in 2020 to start the construction of the PIM project.

PIM integrates all spatial data of above and below ground assets to achieve high efficiency, science and accuracy in port construction, management, operation and decision-making. At the same time, it focuses on the trinity of "asset management data, physical space data and engineering construction data", covers the whole life of assets, the whole port area, all-round and all-processes, meets the management needs of three-dimensional, three-dimensional, see-through, interactive, and truly reflecting the whole picture of the port, and develops and builds a PIM project that is consistent with the actual management of Qingdao Port, and solves the pain points of asset management of port and infrastructure. It is a spatial visualisation system that meets the actual management needs of Qingdao Port and solves the pain points of port infrastructure asset management, and realises the concept of "ten thousand assets reconstructing the space, and a hundred miles of port area leaping to your fingertips".

Based on the more intuitive scene and data of PIM, it can better serve the roles of port decision makers, operation and maintenance personnel, builders, designers and other roles, and achieve construction planning simulation, spatial query of assets, perspective of underground pipelines, water damage analysis in the port area and other practical functions, support the high-quality development of the port and the construction of digital intelligence, and achieve scientific decision-making, modern planning, fine governance and three-dimensional application of port resources.

In addition, the project also makes breakthroughs in technology, develops a visual simulation module to support human-computer interaction in full-space 3D scenes, puts forward a technical solution to address a variety of spatial data fusion processing, improves the lightweight algorithm for simplifying 3D model data based on the Hausdorff Distance QEM grid, develops a modeling tool for automated BIM modeling and collision detection for underground pipelines, and puts forward a full-space mapping and surveying tool for the characteristics of the port scene. It also proposes a full-space mapping and acquisition scheme for port scene characteristics, and develops IoT-aware real-time dynamic streaming service and distribution management module, and many other new technologies and ideas.

Among them, in terms of performance, the project team overcame the technical difficulties of slow loading of high-precision real-time 3D models, reduced the volume of 3D models by 30%, achieved smooth access in the web terminal and mobile terminal, and quickly presented high-precision 3D scenes, solved the problems of stand-alone access to the previous digital twin platforms and high hardware requirements, and laid the foundation for the universal promotion of the project.

Shandong Port of Qingdao Port Asset Management Centre director, project manager Li Yixuan said: "the use of BIM, geographic information systems (GIS), the Internet of Things and digital twins and other new technologies, we break through the boundaries of space and time, the port area together, more than a hundred miles of pipelines, ten million square meters of crude oil tanks, millions of tons of grain silos and other types of equipment and facilities, as fine as a logo, a pipe line are clearly defined. Pipelines are all clearly defined, allowing decision makers to discuss in the real digital space."
