On 21st April, the newly-built 9,100-car ro-ro vessel of China Merchants Industry Haimen Base left the dock smoothly.
It is learnt that this vessel is one of the newly built dual-fuel and zero-carbon ready "Aurora Class" Ro-Ro carriers from China Merchants Industry Haimen Base, and is also the second car carrier to leave the dock in Nantong area this year.
Designed by Deltamarin, the vessel has an overall length of 199.9 metres, a length of 196.4 metres, a beam of 37.6 metres, a depth of 14.53 metres, a design draught of 9.35 metres, and 14 decks, with a carrying capacity of 9,100 cars. The ship can use LNG and conventional fuel, with DNV "ammonia fuel ready" and "methanol fuel ready" class notation, it is the first ship in the field of car carriers that can use carbon-neutral fuel, and it is the most environmentally friendly car carrier in the world.
It is understood that in 2023, China's automobile exports jumped to the world's first number of automobile exports by sea accounted for about 13% of the world, but the professional automobile transport ship capacity accounted for only 2% of the world, ship capacity has become one of the main bottlenecks in the development of the industry.
With the arrival of the international carbon constraint era, the whole chain of the automotive industry chain supply chain to reduce carbon is imperative, energy saving and emission reduction, green and low carbon has become the inevitable trend of the development of the shipping industry, the green and low carbon renewal of the automotive transport fleet has become the focus of the development of the fleet of the current and future.
As the main transport ship for international auto trade transport, the dual-fueled Ro-Ro ship is an important force to cope with the capacity constraints of auto transport ships and to promote the realisation of dual-carbon goal.
