Port of Melbourne handles 280,900 TEU in March

TRADE figures for March released by the Port of Melbourne showed a notable year on year rise in its container throughput, totalling 280,900 TEU.


Full container imports (excluding bass strait) volumes were up in March against the prior year with furniture, domestic appliances, metal manufactures and paperboard all above last year's volume, reports London's Port Technology.

Full container exports (excluding Bass Strait) volumes were also up in March 2024 against the prior year.

Total empty container movements were up in against the prior year's volumes.

Last August, the Port of Melbourne announced the appointment of Leigh Petschel as the organization's new Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
