Historic Breakthrough! CKI Group's First Cape of Good Hope Bulk Carrier Successfully Berthed at Freetown Port
Date:2024-05-22 Readers:
On 6th May 2024, the port of Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone, witnessed a historic moment: CKI Group's own vessel, MV. LEONE FORTUNE, became the first Cape of Good Hope bulk carrier in the port's history to successfully berth at the terminal and departed the port successfully on 9th May, bringing a new chapter to the shipping industry in West Africa.

The Port of Freetown, one of West Africa's most dynamic and critical logistics centres, carries the important mission of connecting the Atlantic Ocean to the rest of the world. Its strategic location and excellent level of service have made it a key hub for international trade. Traditionally, however, Cape of Good Hope bulk carriers have not been able to call at Freetown harbour due to their depth of draught and large size limitations, which has imposed a degree of restriction on logistics in the region.

However, the successful berthing of MV. LEONE FORTUNE at Freetown Port marks a breakthrough in this limitation and brings new development opportunities for Freetown Port. This will provide a more convenient and efficient option for trade and logistics in West Africa, and will help China Keystone Group to build a new level of logistics centre in West Africa.

According to the information, China Keystone Group is a large-scale international resource trading enterprise based on mining resources, bulk product trading as its main business and shipping logistics as its support.

On 20 March this year, the West Africa logistics centre built by CKI Group ushered in the inaugural voyage of the China-Sierra Leone route, and for the first time, the company used its own CAPE ship to ship iron ore from Sierra Leone to China, and then shipped equipment to Sierra Leone on the return journey, successfully realizing the direct shipping of general cargoes. While demonstrating the strong strength of China Keystone in the field of logistics, it also provides a more convenient and efficient channel for the trade exchanges between China, Sierra Leone and the neighbouring countries.
