+4 vessels, Wallenius Wilhelmsen orders another new vessel
Date:2024-05-28 Readers:
Wallenius Wilhelmsen, a leading Norwegian car transporter, has announced that it will continue to build four new vessels in China with dual fuel methanol and ammonia power.

The Oslo-listed car carrier giant has placed an order with China Merchants Jinling Shipyard for four additional 9,300 cubic metre 'Shaper' class car carriers. It is understood that the ship option for this order is a new option obtained by Wallenius Wilhelmsen in March this year. Compared with the previously held option, the delivery time is much earlier.

Previously, the company had ordered the first four vessels of this type in October last year, followed by an additional order for four more in February this year. Wallenius Wilhelmsen has now placed a firm order for a total of 12 vessels, which are scheduled for delivery from mid-2026, with the last four vessels expected to be delivered by the end of 2027 to early 2028. In addition, the company retains options for potential orders for four vessels.

Currently, Wallenius Wilhelmsen operates approximately 125 vessels. The company re-emphasises that the new options granted in March do not represent an increase in the size of the current newbuilding programme.
