THE Port of Melbourne's container throughput totalled 270,000 TEU in April, which show a significant year-on-year (YoY) increase in container volume.

Full container import volumes (excluding Bass Strait) increased in April 2023 compared to the previous year, with furniture, household appliances, metal manufacturers, and paperboard all exceeding last year's level, according to London's Port Technology.
Full container export volumes (excluding Bass Strait) were also higher in April 2024 than the previous year.
Total empty container movements increased in April 2024 compared to the previous year's quantities.
This comes two months after the Port of Melbourne reported a total container throughput of 262,250 TEU in the month of February.

In March, the Port of Melbourne posted a notable YoY rise in its container throughput, amounting to 280,900 TEU.
