Changhong International's First MR-type Chemical Tanker Launched into the Water

At 11:18 on June 7, amidst a burst of festive firecrackers, GOLDEN SUN (CHB5001), the first 50,000-tonne MR-type chemical tanker of the series built by Zhoushan Changhong International for Pro Tanker, slowly slid into the sea, completing the launching of this node successfully. After the launching, the vessel will go into the dock to carry out the whole lifting of the upper construction and the subsequent outfitting work at the dock.

As one of the main shipbuilding models promoted by Changhong International in recent years, the company has received four orders for MR-type vessels from Pro tanker and 4+1+1 orders for MR-type vessels from Horizon Tankers Limited S.A. At present, there are still a number of companies inquiring about newbuilding orders, and this ship model has achieved batch order acceptance, which signifies that the development of Changhong International's business has made a new breakthrough.

CHB5001 is classed by LR, with an overall length of about 182.95 metres, a beam of 32.2 metres and a depth of 19.10 metres. The ship is equipped with energy-saving devices, adopting seawater cooling pump and fan frequency conversion energy-saving technology. The main engine and generator adopt SCR technology, which can further reduce fuel consumption and meet the requirements of the latest rules and regulations in force, as well as meet the requirements of EEDI Phase III. The ship is equipped with a new type of bilge water washing system, including a fixed high-efficiency bilge washing machine and a bilge water collection chamber, which provides a convenient way for the ship owner to dispose of the bilge water in a restricted area. The cargo oil system adopts a flexible and efficient loading design, realising one pump for one tank, and can load 7 kinds of cargoes at the same time, which are IMO Class 2, Class 3 chemicals or refined oil products. It also adopts a new energy saving device of paddle cap fins + energy saving conduit specially designed by SDARI for this type of MR tanker, which reduces the energy consumption of the main engine and improves the propulsion efficiency.

The Classification Society will issue GR (ML, A) and EGCS-R (A, S) class notation when the vessel is delivered, which creates a reliable foundation for the later desulphurisation modification and the main engine to burn more environmentally friendly fuel methanol.

At the ceremony, a number of leaders from Pro Tanker, BOC Financial Leasing Co. Ltd, SMC Supervision, LR Classification Society and Changhong International attended and witnessed this historic moment.

Over the past few days, Changhong International shipbuilding production nodes have been frequently reported, one after another to complete the two 11500 box dual-fuel container ships on the platform, MR-type tanker keel laying, 3,100 box container ship, 5,300 box container ship delivery and other work. All cadres and staffs boosted their spirit, beat the ‘drum of progress’, pressed the ‘fast forward button’, and continued to accumulate momentum and energy for the successful achievement of the semi-annual economic indicators.
