"Electricity instead of oil", 80% reduction in daily operating costs for ships calling at port
Date:2024-07-16 Readers:
Not long ago, two bulk carriers, including the "Long Leader Sea", were operating at the Laotangshan Terminal of Ningbo Zhoushan Port. During this period, the power required for the operation of the ship's equipment and the crew's living electricity came from the quay's shore power.

When boarding the bulk carrier "Long Leader Sea", which was berthed at the pier, all kinds of kitchen appliances were cooking dishes in the galley with ventilation system on. The cabin is brightly lit, and the crew is using computers to browse the web. It is understood that the ship was installed last year to connect to the power equipment, diesel power generation in the past is prone to produce noise and odour problems are gone, the greater benefit is that the operating costs are greatly reduced.

Ship shore power system is a ship docked in the harbour, from the shore side to the ship side of the power supply equipment, mainly to ensure that the ship docked in Hong Kong, the ship's production and life and auxiliary equipment power. Compared with the previous ship diesel power generation noise, high cost, not environmentally friendly and other shortcomings, the ship shore power has no pollution, low cost, strong stability and other characteristics, the economic and environmental effects are more prominent.

Taking the bulk carrier "Long Leader Sea" as an example, docked at the pier for 9 days, the original use of auxiliary power generation, daily consumption of 0.75 tonnes of diesel fuel, costing nearly 5,000 yuan. With the use of shore power, this cost is reduced to RMB 1,000 per day, which greatly reduces the operating cost of the ship in port.

In recent years, Zhoushan City Port and Harbour and Port Administration has made use of the special funds for port shore power construction and transformation projects, and taken the approach of "award instead of subsidy" to promote the construction and promotion of the use of port shore power facilities, promote the use of shore power by ships calling at ports to reduce diesel emissions to pollute the atmosphere, and help ports in the green and sustainable development.

According to statistics, as of mid-June this year, Zhoushan newly built 5 sets of shore power facilities, the city's cargo terminal shore power facilities have covered a total of 46 berths. The overall coverage rate of shore power at the three types of specialised coastal berths within the regulatory scope is 84.6%, of which the coverage rate of container and cruise berths is 100%, and the coverage rate of shore power at the berths of more than 50,000 tonnes of dry bulk cargoes is 80%. The city's cumulative use of shore power 2,506,800 kilowatt-hours, an increase of 664.68 per cent year-on-year, the target completion rate of 145.43 per cent, the above two indicators ranked first in the province.
