Date:2024-08-06 Readers:
On August 4, after successfully completing the loading operation at the anchorage of Homonhon Island in the Philippines, Ningbo Ocean Shipping Company Limited (hereinafter referred to as ‘Ningbo Ocean’)'s vessel “Xinmingzhou 27” carried 55,000 tonnes of nickel ores and sailed to the port of Rizhao in Shandong Province. This is the first time for the company to carry out foreign trade bulk cargo transport business, and also the latest achievement of strengthening capacity construction, expanding business channels and developing performance growth points.

It is reported that the ship ‘Xin Mingzhou 27’, which carried out this maiden voyage, is 190m long, 32.26m wide, with a deadweight tonnage of 57,593.8 tonnes, and is one of the main ships of Ningbo Ocean-going Bulk Carrier Fleet, as well as the first ship with the qualification of foreign trade bulk cargo transport business. On the eve of the maiden voyage, the company strengthens multi-party linkage, stares at the time node, carries out comprehensive upgrading and reconstruction of ‘Xinmingzhou 27’ ship's crane, radio equipment, ballast water treatment device, etc., and updates the relevant ship certificates in a timely manner, so as to ensure that the ship meets the specification of the international bulk transport market and goes into operation smoothly, and lays a good hardware foundation for the successful development of this business. A good hardware foundation was laid for the successful operation of this business.

According to the information, Ningbo Ocean Shipping was established in 1992 with a registered capital of RMB 1.308 billion, and is a holding subsidiary of Ningbo Zhoushan Port Co. The company became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ningbo Zhoushan Port Co., Ltd. in December 2008, formally launched the spin-off and listing plan in December 2020, completed the shareholding reform in March 2021, and successfully landed on the main board of the Shanghai market on 8 December 2022, becoming the first domestic port and shipping enterprise listed on the Shanghai stock exchange ‘A for A’.

Ningbo COSCO is the largest container liner company in Zhejiang Province, but at the same time retains a certain number of bulk carriers. According to the introduction, at present, Ningbo Sino-Ocean's bulk carrier fleet contains 10 vessels of its own, with a total deadweight tonnage of about 266,000 tonnes. The bulk cargo transport business, which is compatible with it, is one of the company's main businesses, and it is also an important hand for it to enhance its competitiveness and influence, and optimise and improve its service capacity.

According to Ningbo COSCO's annual financial report for 2023, the company's bulk cargo business is mainly engaged in the transport of coal from Qinhuangdao, Caofeidian, Jingtang and Huanghua ports to Zhejiang Province, as well as the transport of iron ore from Ningbo Zhoushan Port to the Yangtze River, and it completed the volume of its bulk cargo business last year with a volume of 24.39 million tonnes, a year-on-year increase of 17.42%.

In the face of the fiercely competitive domestic bulk cargo market this year, Ningbo COSCO has actively responded to the national ‘Belt and Road’ initiative to build a ‘leading regional logistics service provider in Asia’, and further optimised the service chain of ‘Overseas Segment’ and ‘Overseas Segment’. The ‘Overseas Section’ service chain has been further optimised and sound, and the bulk cargo transportation business has formally gone international, taking a new step to comprehensively enhance its competitiveness.

Ningbo COSCO said that next, the company will do a fine job of domestic bulk cargo transport business, at the same time, take the incremental volume of foreign bulk cargo business as a breakthrough, seize the development opportunities, strengthen the efforts to solicit cargoes, and continue to write a ‘new chapter’ of high-quality development with the ‘first step’ of the bulk cargo transport business towards the international market. We will continue to write a ‘new chapter’ of high-quality development with the ‘first step’ of bulk cargo transport business to the international market, and make greater contribution to the Group in the process of accelerating the construction of ‘double first-class’.
