China's First Port Carbon Footprint Accounting Service Platform Accredited
Date:2024-09-09 Readers:
Recently, the first container carbon footprint accounting service platform independently developed by Qingdao Port Automated Terminal of Shandong Port passed the third-party certification and obtained the ‘Evaluation Certificate of Container Carbon Footprint Accounting Service Platform’, and at the same time, it also carried out the third-party certification of the carbon footprint of loading and unloading one TEU and obtained the ‘Evaluation Certificate of Carbon Footprint of Loading and Unloading Container’. This is another important breakthrough in the field of port carbon footprinting after Shandong Port Qingdao Port Automated Terminal issued the country's first container carbon footprinting service report card on 22 August, contributing to the ‘Qingdao Port Solution’ for the implementation of the ‘Double Carbon’ goal.

Carbon footprint refers to the carbon emissions generated during the process of processing, transporting, producing and selling products from raw materials, and it is also an important indicator to measure the degree of environmental protection of the products in this process, and carbon footprint accounting is the process of accounting for the carbon emissions in this process. At a time when China is promoting the development of new quality productivity and accelerating the achievement of the goal of carbon peak and carbon neutrality, it is of great significance to promote port carbon footprint accounting to promote the whole process of carbon reduction in ports and upstream and downstream logistics goods in ports and to provide the competitiveness in the international market.

Since this year, Shandong Port Qingdao Port has taken the lead in the research and development of online container carbon footprinting service by the Water Transportation Research Institute of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications of the United Nations, which is an authoritative institution of water transportation in China, and combined with the current situation and characteristics of carbon emissions of Qingdao Xinqianwan Container Terminal (hereinafter referred to as Shandong Port Qingdao Port Automated Terminal), a set of scientifically sound, practical, complete and interactive port carbon footprinting service system was formed. Container Carbon Footprint Online Accounting Service System.

The platform is capable of real-time tracking and querying of the carbon footprint of container life cycle, and the accounting boundary is ‘cradle to gate’. The platform is certified by China Classification Society (CCS) Quality Certification Co., Ltd. and the embedded carbon footprint emission accounting module meets the requirements of ISO14067:2018 and PAS 2050:2011 standards.

The development of the platform is in line with the national demand for strengthening the carbon footprint management system, and can provide scientific, accurate and standardised container carbon footprint data for product manufacturers, shipping companies and other customers to meet their needs to deal with trade barriers such as carbon tax.

It is understood that the container carbon footprint accounting service platform reserves data interfaces for different customers, and can subsequently dock the carbon emission data of container sea transport and road transport, etc., to provide ports and upstream and downstream customers with a wider range of carbon footprint certification services, and drive the development of green and low-carbon transformation of the entire supply chain of the whole industry.
