On 6th September, Hudong-Zhonghua (Group) Company Limited (Hudong-Zhonghua), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), held a naming ceremony for the 24,000 TEU class container vessel Ever Aeon (EVER AEON), which was built by EVER AEON Shipping Co. ‘Naming ceremony for the 24,000 TEU class container vessel Ever Aeon built for Evergreen Marine Corporation (EMC) by Hudong-Zhonghua Group Co.
Mr Zhang Yanyi, Chairman of Evergreen Marine, Mr Zhang Xinyi, Chairman of Evergreen International Shipping (Shenzhen), Mr Chen Jianliang, Chairman of Hudong-Zhonghua, Mr Chi Benbin and Mr Zhang Xiufeng, Vice General Managers of Hudong-Zhonghua's subsidiary, Mr Liu Xuedong, Deputy General Manager of Changxing Shipbuilding, Mr Yang Yu, General Manager of the Shipbuilding Business Department of China Shipbuilding Trading Corporation, and Mr Lin Li, Vice President of Commercial Affairs, American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Greater China, and other distinguished guests attended the naming ceremony.
‘Designed and built by the company, the vessel is equipped with a hybrid Scrubber desulphurisation unit and adopts the world's latest green, energy-efficient, safe and reliable design scheme. Its unique small bulbous bow, large-diameter propellers and energy-saving conduits fully reflect the vessel's fast performance and low energy consumption, and it is the largest vessel in the world in terms of container capacity. It is the largest ship type in the world in terms of loading capacity class.
On the basis of comprehensively summing up the construction experience of the former vessel, the project construction team adheres to the lean management, and achieves scientific planning, forward movement of work processes and process optimisation. The company for the first time in the half-ship stage to achieve the boring, shaft system, blade installation completed work; the ship for the first time to achieve the ‘three passes and one row’, ‘four machines and one furnace’ state, docking integrity to obtain a qualitative leap, to achieve ‘shorter construction cycle, better product quality’ target Hudong-Zhonghua achieved the goal of ‘shorter construction period and better product quality’, creating the fastest construction record of super-large boxships for the company.
Hudong-Zhonghua has already delivered three 24,000 TEU containerships of the same series, ‘Changyi’, ‘Changyun’ and ‘Changchong’, with the cost of each ship ranging from US$160-190 million. ‘The naming of ‘Chang Nian’ will be a new addition to Evergreen's ocean-going fleet.
Evergreen Marine has ordered a series of 13 Class A containerships from Hudong-Zhonghua, Jiangnan Shipbuilding and South Korea's Samsung Heavy Industries (SMI) since 2019, of which Hudong-Zhonghua will build five, Jiangnan Shipbuilding two and Samsung Heavy Industries six. Together with the vessel ‘Changnian’, 12 vessels of this series have been delivered. At present, the last vessel ‘Changyou’ is under construction at Hudong-Zhonghua.
