Full of Chinese cargo! Common Sea Loss! Maersk MSC suddenly announced!
Date:2024-09-24 Readers:
Cargo should have arrived at the port to unload, but the cargo owner forwarder enterprises suddenly received a common sea loss notice from the shipping company!

Recently, a container ship serving the North American route of 2M Alliance, with the name of X-PRESS PYXIS (IMO: 9967536), has suddenly been exposed to announce a common sea loss!

The X-PRESS PYXIS co-located shipping lines MSC and Maersk sent a notice to their customers that they had received notification that the owner of the X-PRESS PYXIS had declared a General Average (GA), which caught a large number of cargo owners forwarding companies off-guard!

In the notification, MSC stated that on 29 August, the X-PRESS PYXIS suffered a failure of the stern tube system and began to drift in the waters of northeastern Japan, in which case the owner has contracted assistance from the tugboat.

As a result of the above, the owner of the X-PRESS PYXlS has declared a common sea loss!

Maersk has also stated in a customer notification that the X-PRESS PYXIS berthed at Yokohama on 17 September and has discharged the Yokohama import containers, and that the owner is still evaluating the choice of ports to unload the remaining containers on board before proceeding to the drydock for repairs.

‘Containers from the ship unloaded from the ship at Yokohama or any other port shall not be released for consignment or delivery until the cargo interests have made the necessary security arrangements through the appointed GA adjuster.’

The notice issued by the insurer shows that on 29 August, the container vessel X-PRESS PYXIS was on a voyage from Busan, South Korea, to Yokohama, Japan, when an alarm was triggered for a leak in the vessel's stern tube. The vessel stopped sailing for an investigation, which revealed a fault in the stern tube system.

As a result of the failure, the X-PRESS PYXIS was unable to complete the voyage under its own power and was subsequently towed to the port of Yokohama, Japan, where it arrived on 17 September.

An underwater inspection of the vessel revealed damage to both the stern tube and propeller, requiring major repairs to the vessel in dry dock. As a result, the containerised cargo will need to be completely unloaded to allow repairs to be made to the stern tube system.

In view of the extraordinary costs incurred for the safety of navigation at sea, Montford Shipping Pte. Ltd., the owner of the X-PRESS PYXIS, has declared a common sea loss, with the Marine Claims Office of Asia Pte Ltd, Singapore, acting as the Common Adjuster for Sea Losses.

The X-PRESS PYXIS (IMO: 9967536), built in 2024, has a capacity of 7,092 TEU, is Singapore-flagged, and is currently deployed by the 2M Alliance on trans-Pacific routes (Maersk's TP1 service and MSC's MAPLE service).

Data shows that X-PRESS PYXIS has previously called at Chinese ports such as Hong Kong, Xiamen, Shenzhen Yantian, Ningbo and Shanghai.

The vessel has now left the port of Yokohama, but data from ShipNews.com shows that the X-PRESS PYXIS is still out of control.

In view of the fact that the X-PRESS PYXIS calls at several Chinese ports and has been drifting at sea for a long time with serious delays in the ship's schedule, now the X-PRESS PYXIS is declared a common sea loss, which means that a large number of cargo owners and forwarders will be lying in the lurch!
