Savannah's Ocean Terminal doubles containership calls
Date:2025-05-15 Readers:
SAVANNAH's Ocean Terminal has expanded containership calls from two to four per week starting May 1, enhancing port efficiency and cutting vessel wait times, reports Savannah's WTOC TV.

The terminal allows ships to spend just six hours at a lay berth before beginning cargo operations at the central berth, streamlining access to port facilities.

Georgia Ports attributed the expansion to substantial April container volumes and expects to release updated figures on May 9.

The announcement follows record throughput in February and March as shippers rushed to beat tariff deadlines.

By May 15, Georgia Ports expects to serve ships even faster with the new lay berth in full use, increasing the total to 32-33 weekly calls.

The 200-acre Ocean Terminal's ongoing renovations are set to be completed by June 2026. This will enable the simultaneous handling of two large container ships and offer a two million TEU annual capacity.
