New Orleans miffed MSC dropped it from rotation
Date:2025-06-06 Readers:

THE Port of New Orleans is miffed after the world's biggest container line, the Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC), dropped the port from its Lone Star route to Asia, reports Fox News.

"The volumes are down because of the tariffs and that's certainly affecting our port and it turns out the company decided they didn't need as much total, you know traffic and so they cut out New Orleans," said University of New Orleans economist Walter Lane.

New Orleans had been one of three Gulf Coast ports serviced by MSC, alongside Houston and Mobile.

"The shipping company has three major ports on the gulf, Houston, Mobile and New Orleans and New Orleans was the one that they cut," said Lane. "And it shows I think our weakness compared to at least at least Mobile. I think competing with Houston is very tough."
