EU proposes Black Sea security hub to counter Russian threats
Date:2025-06-19 Readers:
THE EU plans to create a regional centre to boost Black Sea maritime security amid rising Russian threats, reports London's Port Technology International.

The proposed hub would enhance monitoring and intelligence sharing among Black Sea and EU nations.

According to Reuters, the centre will collect and share real-time data on maritime and seabed infrastructure.

The plan was prompted by concerns over undersea infrastructure security following Russia's aggression.

EU Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas said the centre would help monitor subsea cables and offshore energy assets.

The hub will use drones, underwater sensors, and space-based monitoring for early warnings.

It could also oversee maritime compliance with future Russia-Ukraine agreements.

Separately, the EU added 189 tankers to its blacklist, targeting Russia's "Dark Fleet".

The sanctions now cover 342 vessels and aim to tighten enforcement of oil price caps.
