JAPAN's NYK Logistics North Continent has set up a European distribution centre (EDC) within its bonded warehouse in Ghent, Belgium, for the China Electric Equipment Group (CEEG).
The facility covers 4,000 square metres out of a total surface area of 20,000 square metres. Nanjing-based CCEG manufactures solar panels and related equipment, making cargo volumes very seasonal and difficult to quantify, reports London's Containerisation International.
"Our existing facility is located just next to two inland barge terminals served from Antwerp, Rotterdam and Amsterdam, which means that unless the traffic is urgently required, we can deliver CEEG containers to it more cheaply than via road," said Stefan Durt, business development manager of NYK Logistics North Continent.
"Most of the business is also for onward carriage to other distribution outlets in Italy, Germany and the Czech Republic, which is another advantage of the central location," he said.
