| Fiji probes Goundar Shipping after oil spill |

FIFI's government has launched a maritime investigation after Goundar Shipping's capsized vessel leaked oil, reports Radio New Zealand.
The Lomaiviti Princess II capsized after Fiji Ports towed it from Suva Harbour in early June.
The vessel had been inactive since 2019 and should have been defuelled, said the Maritime Environment Committee.
Fiji Ports acted under regulation 78 after Goundar Shipping failed to remove the vessel.
The company lacks valid waste disposal permits for any vessel, violating environmental law.
The Climate Change Ministry stated that Goundar is liable under Section 37 of the EMA for remediation costs.
Recovery efforts are underway to prevent further spillage, with underwater inspection teams being contracted.
Minister Ro Filipe Tuisawau has ordered a full investigation to determine liability and procedural failures.
