MSC has grown its market share organically over the past five years while rivals like Maersk and COSCO have lost ground, reported Copenhagen's Sea-Intelligence.
The top-10 carriers now control 86 per cent of global capacity, up from 55 per cent in 2010, largely due to consolidation. MSC led gains, adding nearly 10 points of market share organically.
Maersk lost 0.9 points despite acquiring Hamburg Sud in 2017. Cosco also saw declines as MSC's growth in 2020 025 nearly matched their combined loss.
Sea-Intelligence noted other gains by Evergreen, HMM, ZIM and Wan Hai, though Maersk's focus on profitability over market share may explain its performance.
