Minerva orders 8 boxship feeders in China
Date:2025-08-13 Readers:
Greek shipowner Minerva Marine has signed letters of intent with two Chinese shipyards for up to eight 1,800 TEU feeder containerships, reported Singapore's Splash 247.

The Andreas Martinos-led company has agreed to build two firm vessels each at Yangzijiang Shipbuilding and Huanghai Shipbuilding, with options for two more at both yards. The ships will run on conventional fuel and are priced between US$30 million and US$33 million apiece.

Deliveries are scheduled between late 2027 and 2028. Minerva entered the container segment in 2022 with a feeder order at Yangzijiang and has since acquired four secondhand boxships ranging from 1,780 to 2,430 TEU.

The move aligns with a broader market trend as owners seek to replace ageing feeder tonnage. Chinese yards have dominated recent orders, with major liner operators such as MSC also preparing for fleet renewals.

MB Shipbrokers said demand for feeder newbuilds remains strong, with shipbuilding slots for 2028 already filling rapidly.
