McDermott's first TotalEnergies subsea Angolan project
Date:2025-10-29 Readers:

Houston-based McDermott International has successfully delivered its first subsea project in Angola for TotalEnergies' Begonia field development in Block 17/06, located 150 kilometres offshore, reports Saint Petersburg's PortNews.

The project, awarded in 2022, involved engineering, procurement, construction, installation, pre-commissioning and commissioning. It followed McDermott's integrated execution model, combining global engineering expertise with local fabrication in Luanda and offshore support from its marine fleet.

McDermott's Amazon vessel installed over 40 kilometres of rigid pipelines, while the North Ocean 102 completed the subsea umbilical scope. The development includes five subsea wells tied back to the Pazflor FPSO.

First oil was achieved in July, with the new infrastructure expected to add around 30,000 barrels per day to Pazflor's output. McDermott said the milestone highlights its subsea capabilities and the strategic importance of West Africa.

Vice president Mahesh Swaminathan said the project demonstrates the value of McDermott's integrated model and its partnership with TotalEnergies, as well as the commitment of local teams and partners.

McDermott operates in over 30 countries with more than 30,000 employees and a fleet of specialised marine construction vessels. The company provides engineering and construction solutions across the energy sector.
