Vietnam's TCIT hits 2 million TEU milestone for third time
Date:2025-12-04 Readers:

Tan Cang-caii Mep International Terminal (TCIT) has surpassed two million TEU throughput in 2025, reaching the mark on November 24, 22 days earlier than in 2020 and nearly a month earlier than in 2021, reported London's Loadstar. The achievement comes despite global shipping volatility and economic challenges.

This is the third time TCIT has crossed the two million TEU milestone. In 2020, the terminal handled 2,089,555 TEU amid pandemic disruption. In 2021, it reached 2,028,308 TEU under strict on-site operations to keep cargo flowing. In 2025, the milestone was achieved earlier, reflecting gains in productivity and efficiency.

Officials said the milestone demonstrates market confidence in TCIT's operational capability. The terminal operates 12 international service routes connecting Asia, Europe, North America and South America, and can receive mother vessels up to 173,724 dwt. Throughput for 2025 is projected at 2.2 million TEU, confirming TCIT's position as Vietnam's largest deep-water terminal.

Rising volumes in the Cai Mephi Vai area have increased pressure on infrastructure. TCIT has boosted berth and yard productivity, promoted direct container pick-up and drop-off, and strengthened coordination with shipping lines and logistics operators to avoid bottlenecks.

Looking ahead to 2026, TCIT plans to expand digital transformation and green operations. As a joint venture between Saigon Newport Corporation and partners Wan Hai Lines, Mitsui OSK Lines and Hanjin Transportation, TCIT aims to enhance connectivity, reduce emissions and strengthen its role as Vietnam's leading deep-water gateway.
