HMM orders four new 13,000-TEU containerships at Hanwha Ocean
Date:2025-12-05 Readers:

HMM has ordered four 13,000-TEU ships from Hanwha Ocean in a US$730 million deal, with delivery scheduled for 2029, reported Singapore's Splash 247.

Earlier this week, HMM also contracted HD Hyundai to build eight 13,400-TEU LNG dual-fuel containerships worth $1.46 billion, underscoring the carrier's aggressive fleet expansion strategy.

HMM last month became the eighth member of the TEU millionaires club. Its fleet now totals 1,016,180 TEU, according to Alphaliner, which noted the company's operated capacity has doubled over the past five years.

In September 2024, HMM announced plans to expand through 2030, allocating KRW23.5 trillion (US$17.48 billion). The programme aims to nearly double its container fleet while tripling tanker and dry bulk capacity by the end of the decade.
