Greek shipowner Minerva Marine has added two more 3,100 TEU vessels to its orderbook at China's Penglai Jinglu Shipyard, reported Singapore's Splash 247. The deal lifts the series to five ships, with deliveries due in 2027 and early 2028.
The latest contracts follow an initial three-ship order placed in October. Market sources said the units are based on SDARI's Sealion 2900 design, built to chittagongmax specifications, with a nominal capacity of just over 3,000 TEU.
Pricing is estimated at around US$43 million per vessel. Penglai Jinglu has already delivered similar ships to Denmark's Celsius Shipping, while other Chinese yards including Guangzhou Wenchong, Mawei and Yangzijiang are also building variants of the same design.
Minerva, led by Andreas Martinos, entered the container sector in mid-2023 with two 1,800-TEU bangkokmax newbuildings. Since then, the company has expanded its boxship fleet to eight units through a mix of newbuildings and secondhand acquisitions.
