Wan Hai sells fire-damaged ship for scrap
Date:2026-01-29 Readers:

Wan Hai Lines has delivered the container ship Wan Hai 503 for recycling months after a fire incident off India, reports Denmark's Shipping Telegraph.

The Singapore-flagged vessel, built in 2005, caught fire on June 9, 2025, 54 nautical miles off India's west coast. Authorities were notified and emergency response measures were completed, the company said.

After discharging containers at Jebel Ali on December 26, the ship was towed to Drydock World Dubai. It was handed over to APT Global under a BIMCO Recycling Contract on January 12, 2026.

Wan Hai said APT Global operates to the highest international standards and the recycling will follow the Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships.

The company thanked authorities, partners and professional teams for their support during the recovery effort and pledged continued engagement with stakeholders throughout the recycling process.
