Atlantica Shipping re-enters dry bulk
Date:2026-02-05 Readers:

Oslo-based Atlantica Shipping has returned to the dry bulk sector with the delivery of the kamsarmax bulker Atlantica Star, reports Singapore's Splash 247.

The 2011-built vessel has joined the fleet and will be placed under technical management with Greek bulker specialist AM Nomikos. Market sources identified the ship as the Jag Aarati, an 80,300 dwt kamsarmax sold by India's Great Eastern Shipping in December. Brokers estimated the deal at between US$14 million and $15 million.

The acquisition marks another strategic shift for Atlantica, which had reduced its fleet to offshore vessels after exiting container shipping last year. Earlier this month, the company delivered the boxship Atlantica Power to new owners after selling it in November for US$45 million with a charter attached.

Atlantica had re-entered container shipping in 2024 with the purchase of the 4,586-TEU Atlantica Power and later the 3,635-TEU Atlantica Pioneer. Both vessels were sold in late 2025, the latter fetching around $31 million.

With the arrival of Atlantica Star, the company is re-establishing its presence in the dry bulk market through the kamsarmax segment, following the sale of its last three supramaxes in 2024.
