NYK Logistics opens in Nanjing as first step of inland expansion

JAPAN's NYK Logistics (China) Co Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tokyo-based NYK, has opened a branch along the Yangtze River at Nanjing, the capital of Jiangsu province as a first step in expanding inland.

NYK Logistics (NLC) established its head office in Shanghai 10 years ago and was the first wholly owned Japanese logistics company to do so. Since then, NLC has opened offices in seaport cities, Tianjin, Qingdao, Xiamen, Guangzhou, Fuzhou, Dalian, Ningbo and Shanghai-Suzhou.

There are plans to open offices Wuhan, the capital of Hubei province, on the middle reaches of the Yangtze, and another in the Yangtze delta city of Wuxi in May.

NYK (Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha) operates 779 large ocean vessels, as well as fleets of planes, trains, and trucks. The company's shipping fleet includes 154 containerships, 289 bulk carriers, 57 woodchip carriers, 112 car carriers, 80 tankers, 33 LNG carriers, three cruise ships, and 51 other ships. NYK's revenue in fiscal 2008 was about US$24 billion, and as a group NYK employs about 55,000 people worldwide.
