Date:2009-12-18 Readers:

SmartWay Logistics, an asset-free provider of technology driven transportation management solutions, announces the opening of its offices in Utrecht, the Netherlands and Gniezno, Poland as it develops its European business. The Dutch office will serve as SmartWay Logistics’ headquarters with both offices providing operational expertise.
Having joined SmartWay Logistics to lead the business is Rene van den Akker, who brings more than 10 years of experience in logistics in both North America and Europe. Mr. van den Akker heads both teams that include operations and carrier contracting specialists.
Henk van der Wal, CEO of SmartWay Logistics, commented, ‘The European logistics industry is in need of a provider who can create ‘smart’ or sustainable logistics solutions in order to reduce empty running and increase efficiency. SmartWay Logistics does just that by using innovative technology and employing some of the best logistics professionals in the industry.’
Mr. van den Akker said, ‘I am very excited to be part of the SmartWay Logistics team as it begins operations in Europe. The Utrecht and Gniezno locations enhance our ability to service established and growing markets and enable us to deliver further value to our clients.
SmartWay Logistics specializes in outsourced transportation management, carrier management, logistics consulting and administration covering all modes of transport. Being asset-free and carrier neutral means that SmartWay Logistics is not restricted by a network therefore allowing the right provider to be chosen for the right lane while benefiting from local market knowledge.
