Chennai-Ennore road project may be delayed further
Date:2009-12-10 Readers:

Implementation of the decade-old US$130 million Chennai-Ennore road connectivity project is expected to be delayed further, the Hindu Business Line reported.
The project to enable free flow of truck traffic from and to the Chennai port in North Chennai will be cancelled and retendered as the contractor, the Chennai-based National Asphalt Products and Construction Company, withdrew from the project, according to Capt Subhash Kumar, Chairman, Chennai Port Trust, one of the partners of the project earlier called the Ennore Manali Road Improvement Project (EMRIP).
The project cost was finalised in September 2008, but the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) did not release the order. The contracting company wanted a new rate and it could not work on the basis of costs finalised in the previous year. Also, land acquisition was a major issue in the region.
