Upgrading Shanghai-Nanjing Wu Shen Canal is underway
Date:2009-12-07 Readers:

THE Gao Chun section in Nanjing of Wu Shen Canal will be ready to accommodate 1,000-ton vessels between Shanghai and Nanjing by 2012, reports Xinhua.
Distance will be cut by 85 kilometres and the transit time by 10 hours over the Yangtze route because river is bow-shaped and the Wu Shen Canal will be straight.
Shorter distances translate into CNY1,000 (US$146) fuel savings per transit. The upgrade will allow upriver goods to be efficiently delivered to the lower Yangtze.
