Myanmar-China pipelines set
Date:2009-06-22 Readers:
CHINA has announced a start date of September for its pipelines that will transport oil and gas from Myanmar's west coast port of Kyaukryu to China, according to the China Daily newspaper.
The oil and gas would be shipped from the Middle East and Africa to Myanmar.
The 1,100km pipelines would run parallel and transport 20M tonnes of crude and 12Bn m³ of gas per year to Kunming in China's Yunnan province, entering China at the border city of Ruili, the official Communist Party daily said.
From Kunming, the lines would extend to industries in Guizhou and Guangxi Zhuang provinces.
China's Xinhua news agency said the pipelines would cut the tanker route by 1,200km and also reduce China's reliance on the Strait of Malacca for oil import.
